Feeding the Starter

Begin with about a cup of sourdough starter in a small bowl. To feed it:

  1. Add to the starter:
    • 1/4 cup white flour
    • 1/4 cup whole-wheat flour
    • 1/4 cup warm water (approximately 80° F)

  2. With a spatula, mix the four and water into the starter.

  3. Whisk the starter to break up any flour lumps and get a smooth batter-like mixture.
