A bit over two years ago, María found some of Mom’s old papers and saved them for me. Some of the sheets were barely legible; others were on the verge of disintegrating; and the lower right corner of many had been eaten away.
I went through this material recently while in Belize for my 50-year high school reunion. It included Mom’s copies of old letters (some missing pages) plus drafts of a couple children’s stories, an essay, and a very interesting short story that I initially thought was autobiographical…unfortunately it was unfinished—I’d love to know how it ended!
I found information that I could incorporate into existing chapters and more that will become new chapters. So far, I have:
- Added letter (October 23, 1944) to chapter New York
- Added details (1948) to chapter A New Family
- Added exerpt from letter (May 18, 1954) to section “House and Yard” in chapter Home of Our Own
- Added letter (1965) to chapter Exercise Bay Rum
